Heliangelus Nature Tours
Heliangelus means ”sunangel” and is the name of one of the most beautiful hummingbird genera of the Andes. There are nine species distributed between Venezuela and Bolivia. Most of them are common, but there are two exceptions: the all blue Royal Sunangel described from northern Peru as late as 1979, and the enigmatic Bogotá Sunangel whihch is known only from a single specimen. Heliangelus Nature Tours is a tour company for people who like nature in general and birds in particular. That may not be uncommon. But take a closer look at the destinations offered, and, especially, the prices. As well as the small groups – Heliangelus is a unique tour operator in Sweden.
Heliangelus is run by me, Samuel Hansson (click
here for a closer presentation), who have visited every destination, been at a majority of the birding sites, have important local contacts and is always well prepared. If you travel with one of the big, well established birding tour companies you might (but not necessarily) come home with a slightly longer bird list, and you no doubt stay at fancier hotels many times – if you can afford it, that is.
Heliangelus offers well planned tours to safe places. South America, my favourite continent, for same strange reason has a highly undeserved dubious reputation among Swedish birdwatchers. My hope is that Heliangelus will contribute to an improved image of Neotropical birding, and that more people will discover and experience the Bird Continent above others.
With Heliangelus you travel in a small group, assisted by me as guide and tour leader. When deemed necessary, a local guide will accompany as well. Transports at the different destinations are mostly in mini vans. On some tours there is a hired driver, on others one or two participants must help me with the driving. Accommodation is midrange to rather simple. Details such as these are thoroughly specified for each tour.
The tour price includes all transports except international flights, accommodation, entry fees etc., guidance, thorough information and species lists before the trip, and a trip report (PDF file) after the trip. Food is only included if so stated – for specific details read the information for each tour.
Things not included in the price are international flights, travel insurances, vaccinations etc., tips or entry visas. Food is generally not included, but there are exceptions.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me. In any case you’re very welcome to join me in experiences of nature discovered by few!
